Sampdoria boss Claudio Ranieri was happy with the point against Sassuolo, especially in the aftermath of their 5-1 drubbing against Lazio last week. “A point is always a point.”

Ranieri’s men battled to a 0-0 draw with the Neroverdi, yet the former Roma coach was satisfied given last week’s performance against the Biancocelesti.

“A point is always a point, especially after the defeat in Rome last week,” said Ranieri in his press conference.

“The performance was there, we fought, we could have won but we also could’ve lost. We met an organised team.”

Sassuolo’s Federico Peluso was sent off in the first half, but Ranieri believes it did his side more harm than good.

“The sending off didn’t do us any favours. They continued to play as they were organised, we became disjointed for a while and in the end we left ourselves open to counterattacks.

“We could’ve moved the ball faster.”

Asked if Samp will do anything in the transfer market before it closes, Ranieri wasn’t sure.

“You can never say what can happen. We know the situation and what we have to do. I have to safeguard the team’s assets.”
