However, with Los Che’s ownership issues putting talks on the back seat, Marseille are seen as potential spoilers of a move back to Italy.

And the defender has admitted that he is fond of Ligue 1 and the Stade Velodrome outfit in particular.

“Ligue 1? I’m trying not to think about the future, but I will never forget where I came from,” he told reporters.

“I have a lot of respect for French football, but obviously it would depend on what team came in with an offer.

“Marseille? They are a great club for whom I have a lot of respect.

“But like I said, I don’t want to talk about my future just yet.”
