Adil Rami is overjoyed at returning to Milan after a Valencia transfer saga. “I felt like Gladiator!”

The defender spent the last six months on loan at San Siro, but the two clubs could not decide on a buy-out clause until Saturday, when Rami agreed to take a €0.5m pay cut to help Milan reach the €4.75m asking price.

“It was a difficult moment for me,” Rami told reporters at the Milanello training ground.

“I am very happy to be at a great club like Milan. I wanted to prove how much I wanted to stay here, I saw the fans supported me and that gave me the strength to do everything possible.

“I loved talking to the fans and showing them I too am a Rossonero supporter. I felt like Gladiator! Like Maximus, I went through a difficult moment and at the end I won.”

Rami had Massimiliano Allegri in charge at first and then Clarence Seedorf, but Pippo Inzaghi took over this month.

“We cannot forget what Milan have done, as we can write history again, the one that I and the club want.

“I feel lucky and I tell myself that every day, that is my strength. That’s why I can believe in the Scudetto, because I used to be a mechanic and I know anything is possible, but first of all we should focus on Champions League qualification.”
