Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella admits “looking back” his goal against Napoli was his best, but it involved “a good percentage of luck”.

The veteran scored a stunning backheel goal against his former side, but said after the match he’d only put it in his top three strikes.

“Even if I didn’t want to see it again, I get tagged in it on social media!” Quagliarella smiled, speaking at the Memorial Scirea.

“Even if I didn’t want to see it again, I get tagged in it on social media!” Quagliarella smiled, speaking at the Memorial Scirea.

“Looking back I’d say yes, it was the most beautiful. I was almost standing still, it was a moment of lucid madness.

“On those kind of shots you need a good percentage of luck. You either have it in you to try that kind of thing or you don’t, strikers live on instinct.

“I’ve had a lot of messages from Naples, but they’re all compliments and amazement.”

Quagliarella is a former Juventus striker, and while he scored that, record signing Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to find the back of the net.

“He’s scored the most beautiful goals, he doesn’t need a backheel like mine. I admire him very much.”
