Sampdoria’s sporting director explains why the club tied Fabio Quagliarella to a new contract. “He lights us up like the lighthouse in the bay of Genoa.”

Samp announced on Christmas Day that Quagliarella had extended his contract until 2020, capping off a first half to the season that saw the veteran striker become the first Italian to score in eight straight Serie A games since Christian Vieri in 2002.

“Quagliarella lights up Sampdoria like the lighthouse in the bay of Genoa,” Carlo Osti told Sky Sport Italia.

“Aside from his technical qualities on the field, we want to underline his great qualities as a man, as he helps the team and works with the younger players to aid their development.

“That is also why we decided to renew his contract.”
