The veteran converted a penalty in today’s 2-0 victory over local rivals Genoa, his 22nd goal of the Serie A season.

“It was a wonderful day and I thank the crowd for allowing me to experience days like this,” Quagliarella told Sky Sport Italia.

“I scored a goal, provided an assist, there was a great save at the end from Ionut Radu. It was a marvellous feeling being there.

“We’ve got to continue like this, as every time we have to make the step up in quality and consistency, we tend to stumble. It’s important to create that momentum.”

Quagliagol was asked if he intends to see out his playing career at Marassi.

“Unless they kick me out, I’m staying here. I saw the crowd preparing an ovation and waiting for the players to jump. I looked behind me, but there was nobody there, so it must’ve been for me. I thank them, it was a wonderful gesture and I’ll keep these emotions in my heart always.”

The goal also put Quagliarella alone on top of the Capocannoniere charts, ahead of Krzysztof Piatek and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“There’s a long time to go this season and many talented strikers, so let’s just hold our horses.”
