Southampton manager Claude Puel admits “it’s difficult to prepare” for the Inter game after Frank de Boer's sacking.

The Nerazzurri sacked De Boer yesterday, and Primavera Coach Stefano Vecchi will be on the bench for the Europa League clash at St Mary’s.

In his pre-match Press conference, the Saints boss was asked if the decision has changed his plans.

“Of course it’s difficult for us to prepare for this game because we don’t know what to expect in terms of the profile, the spirit, the system of play,” Puel admitted.

“We’re sure that they’re great players, they won the first game while struggling and that’s the quality of the players they have.

“They can make the difference at any time. I think we dominated the first game with a lot of chances and we lost it on one or two chances for Inter.

“That’s what great teams and great players do, we have to be careful of this team, but the most important thing for us is to keep concentration on our game, play our football and make chances.

“Of course it’s an important game tomorrow against Inter. They’re perhaps under pressure because they lost the first two games, but on our part we conceded late in the loss at San Siro and it’s important to win this game tomorrow.

“For qualification you usually need around 10 points and we have six points from three games, we have two games at home and one away. It’s very important to win at home.

“I expect the same as the first game, a good quality in the play and the possibility to take points of course.

“We conceded late in the loss at San Siro and it’s important to keep our chances of qualification alive and to keep the possibility of continuing this work.”

De Boer was only given 14 games, is that enough time to make an impact on a team?

“What I can say about this? I’m the Southampton manager. When they chose me they chose a manager to work for a long time and make progress with different players, young players.

“I know what my job is here, to improve all these young players and also have good results. It’s a balance.

“My club, Southampton has a good balance between improving players and results, which are important for every team.

“De Boer? I think it’s always a shame when a Coach don’t keep his place, but for us it’s important to maintain good concentration on our game.

“It’s difficult to say something about this [De Boer], because of course we don’t know all the information around it.”
