Former hero Roberto Pruzzo has claimed Roma captain Edin Dzeko can catch his tally of 138 goals in the Giallorossi shirt, second only to Francesco Totti.

The 65-year-old ended his Roma career on 315 games and picked up four Coppa Italia and one Scudetto during his time with La Lupa.

He claimed the Capocannoniere title three times in Serie A but looks over his shoulder as the current captain has two more years left on his deal and looks set to add a third.

Dzeko is currently on 104 goals, 34 behind Pruzzo at second and the former centre-forward has claimed the 34-year-old could catch him during the next two seasons.

“This year, I don’t think so. Let me still enjoy second place behind Totti for a while,” he told Il Messaggero. “If he plays two more seasons at his level, he can catch me.”

Dzeko scored two great volleys to help Roma pick up three points against Sampdoria last time and Pruzzi hailed his ‘timing’ and ‘technique’.

“He scored two great goals. One with the left, the other with the right. Nothing to say, I scored two similar ones against Inter if my memory doesn’t deceive me.

“These are difficult balls, you must be able to coordinate and hit it at the right time. He was good. It must be said that [Blucerchiati coach Claudio] Ranieri’s men also have a bit of responsibility, but the technical performance can’t be discussed.”

Pruzzo claimed the Bosnia international has a character that, despite being fourth in the all-time goalscoring list at the Giallorossi, doesn’t seem to win the crowd over and gain the same legendary status as previous heroes have done in the capital.

“Maybe it depends on his character because Dzeko is not one who conveys many emotions in his way of being.

“He’s a great player but he’s not the type that makes the people’s blood boil. There are qualities you either have or don’t, you can’t learn it.

“But I would hold onto a player like Dzeko.”
