Milan striker Rafael Leao received a yellow card for protests in the first half of Sunday’s Serie A clash against Atalanta and will be suspended next week against Fiorentina.

The Portuguese striker demanded a red card for Italy international Rafael Toloi who had stopped the Rossoneri’s counter-attack with a handball. It was just beyond the midfield line and another Atalanta defender had the chance to get on the ball, so referee Maurizio Mariani only booked Toloi.

Leao wasn’t happy with the decision, but his protests led to a yellow card for him as well, his fifth this season. This means he will miss Saturday’s away match against Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi in Florence.

Leao has nine goals and as many assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season but hasn’t scored or assisted in the last eight games across all competitions.

Milan will visit Antonio Conte’s Tottenham in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 in London on March 8, after days after the away match in Florence.
