Simon Kjaer is the latest addition to the growing Milan injury list, as Stefano Pioli has a decimated squad to face Salernitana in tomorrow morning’s Serie A match.

It kicks off at the Stadio Arechi on Wednesday at 11.30 GMT, the first in a full day of 10 Serie A fixtures on the return of domestic football after the 2022 World Cup.

The Rossoneri make the trip to Salerno without numerous players who are on the treatment table and the latest to pull out is Danish defender Kjaer, who remains behind to work on his fitness.

Mike Maignan, Divock Origi, Ante Rebic, Fode Ballo-Toure, Alessandro Florenzi, Junior Messias, Rade Krunic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are already out of action.

It means Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez are rushed straight into the starting XI just weeks after they played for France in the World Cup Final defeat to Argentina.

The only real doubt is between Brahim Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere.

As for Salernitana, Antonio Candreva is suspended, with Luigi Sepe, Pasquale Mazzocchi and Riccardo Maggiore are on the treatment table.

Mexico international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is therefore set to make his Serie A debut.

Probable line-ups

Salernitana (3-5-2): Ochoa; Bronn, Daniliuc, Fazio; Sambia, Coulibaly, Bohinen, Vilhena, Bradaric; Dia, Piatek

Milan (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud
