Genoa President Enrico Preziosi implied Mafia corruption is “involved” with Roma’s 1-0 victory at Marassi.

The patron was furious after the home defeat, which saw Mattia Perin sent off and a last-gasp Rincon equaliser correctly ruled offside.

“A team with 10 men held out against Roma to the end, but that incident penalised us,” Preziosi told reporters.

“I am disappointed by the arrogance of certain referees. Banti is a real curse for us and is incapable of handling a difficult game.

“It’s difficult to beat Roma when you’re down to 10 men, but I know that this decision was very dubious.

“There are too many things happening in Rome at the moment and I’d hate for football to be involved too.”

Preziosi is referring to the recent scandal of Mafia influence and widespread corruption in Rome’s local government.

Perin was sent off for taking down Radja Nainggolan on a penalty and it was judged to be a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Preziosi is not a squeaky-clean figure himself, as Genoa were demoted when his club was found guilty of attempting to bribe opposition team Venezia with a suitcase full of money.
