Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has reportedly held talks to sell the club to an Arab investment fund.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Preziosi spoke to a representative “around 10 days ago”, with the fund promising an investment of up to €90m for the majority of Genoa’s shares.

However, the newspaper stresses the sale would only be “gradual”, while the consortium is seeking particular assurances that the owner and his son Fabrizio relinquish their influence in the buying and selling of players.

Furthermore, there is “a cautious optimism” about the deal going through, given the recent collapse of Massimo Cellino’s attempted takeover.

Preziosi bought Genoa in 2003 and enjoyed early success, gaining promotion to Serie A in 2007, despite a demotion to the third tier two years earlier.

However, the patron has overseen 20 managerial changes throughout his ownership, while the Grifone have battled relegation in four of their last seven campaigns.
