Pressure is growing on Claudio Lotito, who owns both Lazio and Serie B side Salernitana, after complaints he is trying to force players into training during the coronavirus pandemic.

The AIC (Players’ Association) released a statement this week warning they would take strong action if clubs tried to call players into training sessions or even to have their temperature checked rather than doing it themselves at home.

Even though Serie A and B are shut down until at least April 3, Salernitana held a training session this morning, going against the Government guidelines.

There have been multiple reports that Lotito and Juventus President Andrea Agnelli had a heated discussion during this week’s Serie A conference call to discuss suspending the league.

Lotito was determined to keep Lazio going into training, with Agnelli reportedly accusing him of “caring more about this than the health of your players.”

Lazio were also in the spotlight when the chief medics of all Serie A clubs came together to announce they would not work with players if it was too early to ensure their safety.

“Some colleagues will find themselves on Monday facing owners of clubs who absolutely want to resume training. This is very worrying when it comes to protecting everyone’s health,” Lazio medic Doctor Ivo Pulcini told Radio Radio on Saturday.

“If training were to resume, we have threatened unanimously to resign as medical staff for our clubs.”
