The plan, which has been labelled ‘Project Restart’, lets the English top flight finish at the end of July and its teams compete in UEFA’s club competitions, due to start up again in August.

The remaining fixtures would also be played behind closed doors, with some tipped to be available on free-to-air platforms.

Premier League chiefs will hold a conference call with club officials on Friday, where the dates reported by BBC could be confirmed.
