The Napoli and Italy right-back became ill on the flight home from a Europa League game in Portugal and underwent emergency surgery on Friday.
“I await him anxiously, but I am sure he’ll be back on the field soon because he’s a warrior,” Azzurri Coach Prandelli told Il Mattino newspaper.
“I’ve been told it is nothing serious and that is pleasing. He is a player of great quality and a good man too. He’s always got the right grit for the occasion.
“He has been part of the Nazionale squad for years. I always appreciated his hard work and effort. I wish him all the best.
“I will call Christian soon, but at this moment it is best to leave him be with the medics and his family at his side.
“He just needs to focus on recovering as soon as possible and staying calm.”
