Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli is pleased with the positive reception his side have received since their arrival in Brazil.

The Azzurri were awarded a decent ovation following their 5-3 friendly win over Fluminense last night.

Speaking at a Press conference today, the tactician explained that he feels it is to do with his team’s continual efforts to play an entertaining brand of football.

“It’s a very pleasing thing, we didn’t think it would be like that,” Prandelli told the media. “In my opinion it was because they saw a team who always try to play.

“It is proven that when a team shows it wants to play football, it goes appreciated everywhere in the world.”

Though Prandelli acknowledges the need for his team to improve defensively, he also stressed that the Azzurri would continue to try to win matches by outscoring the opposition.

“The issue of not conceding goals is everyone’s, not just ours. Occasionally, when you concede goals, there is a general worry.

“Over these four years we have played some great tournaments, so we can’t underestimate this aspect. However, we must also think about what makes up the game of football.

“Our idea is to score more goals than the opposition, even if it means we concede some.”

Finally, the Coach was asked about the potential dangers of facing Group D rivals Costa Rica.

“They have a good temperament and they are dreaming.

“We can’t underestimate them and it will be difficult to play against them, not just for us but for the other teams in the group.”
