Italian papers suggest Cesare Prandelli or Fabio Capello are ready to replace Frank de Boer at Inter with Diego Simeone lined up for 2018.

Italian papers suggest Cesare Prandelli or Fabio Capello are ready to replace Frank de Boer at Inter with Diego Simeone lined up for 2018.

The media had previously pointed to Capello as the prime candidate in case the current Coach was sacked.

Now both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport claim that Prandelli is being lined up for the San Siro bench instead.

Former Italy and Fiorentina tactician Prandelli is a free agent and had agreed terms with Lazio over the summer before the club went for Marcelo Bielsa.

The Corriere dello Sport also points out that Capello or Prandelli would be suitable short-term replacements because the main aim is to have Simeone in 2018.

Simeone never disguised his desire to return to Inter as a Coach and this week caused shockwaves by reducing his Atletico Madrid contract by two years – a practically unheard-of gesture.

De Boer has won only one of his four games in charge of Inter and Thursday’s embarrassing 2-0 Europa League home defeat to Hapoel Beer-Sheva further damaged his standing.

The biggest concern with De Boer’s tenure is that Inter have been in a leading situation for just one minute of football this season, represented by stoppages in their 2-1 victory at Pescara.
