Cesare Prandelli said Fiorentina need ‘clear concepts’ to avoid the ‘ups and downs’ in their performances, as they prepare for the game against Lazio.

Prandelli replaced Beppe Iachini at the helm in November and admitted he had to change the mentality at the Artemio Franchi.

“The ups and downs come if the concepts are not clear,” Prandelli said at a press conference. “I like a team that knows what they should and shouldn’t do.

Prandelli replaced Beppe Iachini at the helm in November and admitted he had to change the mentality at the Artemio Franchi.

“The ups and downs come if the concepts are not clear,” Prandelli said at a press conference. “I like a team that knows what they should and shouldn’t do.

“I’ll just add that in difficulties you can’t interpret the matches individually. That’s a danger.”

Fiorentina arrive from a goalless draw against Bologna in the first game after the break and are unbeaten in four Serie A matches.

Despite having been brought in to turn things around immediately, Prandelli stressed he looks to the future and revealed he has an ‘interesting’ youth squad at the Viola.

“I always think of their future, of a perspective,” he said. “The lads have to gain experience in training and there are two or three interesting ones.

“It’s useless to mention any names, they need to make mistakes. The important thing is to understand why. Our youth squad is interesting.”

Dusan Vlahovic scored the first goal in an impressive 3-0 win against Juventus on December 22 and Prandelli said the Serbian has the potential to help the Viola do something about their lack of goals and reach double digits.

“We hope so, the potential is there, but let’s not forget that he’s 20 years old,” Prandelli added. “His determination, however, is guaranteed.

“Basically, when you can’t make the last through ball, you have to have the courage to go into the opponent’s box and attack them.”

Fiorentina are 14th in Serie A ahead of today’s match against the Aquile, who have only won once in five League matches.
