Matteo Politano’s agent condemns those who suggest he contracted COVID-19 during a vacation in Paris. ‘This is why Napoli never win, we are prone to self-destruction.’

The winger was not part of the Italy squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers, so took the break for international duty as an opportunity to visit Paris with his partner.

When they returned, he tested positive for COVID-19 and is therefore out of tomorrow’s showdown with Inter.

“As always in this city, things get out of hand,” agent Mario Giuffredi told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“Nowhere else in Italy would people stir up this sort of controversy that we’re seeing in Naples. Everyone says Politano contracted COVID in Paris, but he might’ve got it in Naples and it just took a while to incubate.

“The first test was negative, so it is not a heavy viral load. He is vaccinated, spends almost his entire time at home with a young baby, so it was a short break. Players must be criticised for their performances, but not their private lives.

“This is why I am convinced Napoli never win anything, it’s because it is all treated with excess, we are prone to self-destruction. It’s not like he went partying to all hours, he took his wife to Paris for three days.”
