Philip Platek reveals he had been in talks to buy Genoa and Sampdoria before acquiring a majority stake in Spezia.

Platek completed Spezia’s takeover this past February, but he could have bought another club from Liguria.

“In 2020, I spoke to Genoa, Sampdoria and a Serie B club,” Platek told Il Secolo XIX.

Eventually, Platek reached an agreement with former Spezia President Gabriele Volpi.

Genoa were acquired by American owners only a few months later with 777 Partners announcing the club’s takeover from Enrico Preziosi at the end of September.

The new Rossoblu owners have already made the first firm decision of their tenure, sacking Davide Ballardini and hiring Andiy Shevchenko.

Sampdoria remain under the ownership of Massimo Ferrero, who bought the club from the Garrone family in 2014.
