The Giallorossi play the second leg of their Last 16 clash with the Spanish giants tonight, having been defeated 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico.

“The Champions League is a great competition for every player, I would like to play in it every year,” Pjanic explained to UEFA’s official website.

“It’s very important for all of us, everyone dreams of winning it: everyone watches you, it’s always a high level of football.

“When you enter the stadium and the match is about to start there’s always that music, which makes you understand that it’s a special night. It’s a great competition, I hope I’ll win it one day.

“It doesn’t mean anything special to face big teams like Barcelona and Real for me, they are matches like any other. Now we’re in the last 16, we simply want to get through.

“We lost 2-0 at home, a harsh result given how the match went. These are the high-level matches that are decided on small details, and we made mistakes against Real that you’re made to pay for immediately.

“It was a shame, but the tie isn’t over. Now we’re focused on the league and we’ll try to make a miracle – in football anything is possible.”

Pjanic was also asked about working with Coach Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Rudi Garcia in January.

“I can say that after the change with the sacking of Rudi Garcia, the squad is working very well with Spalletti.

“We’re working to achieve the goals of the company and our club, of or our fans and ourselves. We just want to take the team as far as possible. We have big objectives and our squad can reach them.

“The League is still very open and in the Champions League we still have the return leg.”
