Miralem Pjanic “likes the new position” in Luciano Spalletti’s Roma and stands up for Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian midfielder played in a 4-2-3-1 system in the 1-1 draw with Verona and provided several excellent chipped assists for the strikers.

“During the week I spoke with the Coach, he put me in front of the defence. I made many touches, clearly we need to improve and be more precise, but I did like the new position,” Pjanic told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have to work on the movements and in this game we allowed Verona to go clear on goal two or three times, so we should’ve finished it off earlier. We can learn from it.”

Dzeko again missed several sitters and was jeered by the Giallorossi fans.

“The team is behind him, we try to give him the service to score and he gives it his all. These periods happen for a striker, it’s always difficult to emerge from it, but he has been determined to win since he arrived and works really hard.

“Naturally he expects a goal, but we’ll keep supporting him all the way, as he is important to us.”
