The tactician swooped for his former Inter pupil on transfer deadline day after the 32-year-old accepted a loan switch to the Premiership.

“David Pizarro is a good quality player,” boss Mancini, whose City side lost 1-0 at Everton on Tuesday, commented.

“I think that he can help us in the next three months because now we’re starting to play every three days and, maybe, we can rest the other players who have played all year.”

The Chilean playmaker was also linked with a January switch to Juventus to provide cover for Andrea Pirlo.

The former Udinese midfielder didn’t feature in the plans of boss Luis Enrique at Roma this season. He played in just seven Serie A games – two of which were substitute appearances.
