The Bianconeri were held 2-2 by Cesena last week and this evening had been trailing for 14 minutes, but came back for the 2-1 result.

“It was a tough match and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We learned from the mistakes made against Cesena and fought back to pick up all three points. Our only objective tonight was the win, even without necessarily playing very well.

“Now we’ll prepare for Tuesday’s game and we really needed this victory.”

Pirlo decided the match with a spectacular long-range strike that dipped and swerved in the air. Was that goal a message to Borussia Dortmund?

“The message was above all for Serie A, as that is what we were interested in today. It was not an easy game, we also went behind, but with hard work and suffering under pressure we got the victory.”

Fernando Llorente had scored the equaliser, bundling over the line from close range.

“Llorente needs confidence, we hope this goal has shaken him up, as we need him as well as everyone in this squad.”

This evening Borussia Dortmund won 3-2 away to Stuttgart, reviving their Bundesliga form.

“Borussia Dortmund are a side to be feared, as we see what they’ve done in the Champions League. The first leg will be fundamental and we must try to win without conceding a goal.”
