Rangnick seems to be closing in on a deal to become Milan’s manager, taking full control of coaching, recruitment and even medical matters.

However, Corriere della Sera claims the German still has not signed on the dotted line as Pioli’s chances of being retained are ‘stronger than ever’.

The former Fiorentina boss has taken the Rossoneri on an eight-match unbeaten run since lockdown was lifted, while getting the best out of several underperformers.

Therefore, the club is not expected to confirm their coach for next season until 2019-20 is over.

The newspaper adds he has the full support of Milan’s dressing room, which makes a change at this stage even more difficult.

The Diavolo are currently sixth in Serie A, on course for Europa League qualification, and face Sassuolo, Atalanta, Sampdoria and Cagliari in their remaining fixtures.
