Stefano Pioli confessed Fiorentina didn’t put in “our usual performance” in a 1-0 home defeat to Cagliari.

The Viola’s chances of making it into the top six have practically evaporated, but there is still a head-to-head with Milan next week.

Seventh place provides entry to the Europa League preliminary rounds from July.

“We had started the game pretty well, but weren’t fluid enough in our build-up play,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Cagliari were always first to the ball. Today the team didn’t deliver to its potential, as the fact we had to win perhaps messed with our heads.

“The last 10 rounds was a great charge up the table, the performances were strong and today we were lacking against a side that played a very physical game.

“It was not our usual performance. We should’ve had more hunger and determination.”

Pioli was sent off in stoppages for dissent and the game ended in a massive brawl with Jordan Veretout’s red card.

“I don’t think I deserved to be sent off, as I just wagged my finger and said no. Perhaps we were too fired up and it backfired on us. A mistake can happen, it was an ugly scene and it ended there.”
