“When playing this often at the start of the season, it’s important to control the game, control the tempo and make the opposition do the work. We didn’t hold the ball as well as we should’ve, but it went well,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have to take it one game at a time, improve the many situations we can do better on. There are a few difficult situations with injuries piling up and a decisive week, as we’ve got the Europa League play-off with Rio Ave coming up on Thursday.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already out after testing positive for COVID-19, but Rebic went off today after falling very awkwardly on to his arm, with reports it’s a dislocated elbow.
“I hope Rebic’s injury won’t require a long lay-off. Fortunately, we got Rafael Leao back today. The good news is that it doesn’t appear to be a fracture and that can bring down the recovery time by a lot. I hope it is confirmed, because without Zlatan as well, we are a little short-staffed in attack,” noted Pioli.
“I am satisfied with Sandro Tonali and Brahim Diaz performances, they are not yet at 100 per cent, but can give the team a big helping hand.”
