“We are a team now, we have certain characteristics and a specific identity,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We know there are big expectations around us now, which is normal considering the results we’re achieving and the prestige of the club. We will soon run into some difficult matches, but we get there with the right enthusiasm.

“I like this team, this club, we work well together and I know full well the problems we will encounter going forward, because there are seven very strong sides in Serie A and only the top four will end the season happy. We must do everything we can to be in that group.”

The transfer deadline is tomorrow evening and Milan are in talks for both Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Ozan Kabak of Schalke.

“It’s true we are looking for a centre-back, because we still have so many injuries in that area of the team and a packed fixture list. We’re looking, there’s not much time, but it’s important that we started the season strong.

“Ante Rebic still has some pain in his elbow, next week will be important. Alessio Romagnoli could potentially be available for the derby, while Mateo Musacchio needs a while more.”
