“This group is focused, interested in working well together,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“Results make the difference and can change everything. We must do everything we can to achieve positive results. I think beating a strong side like Lazio would improve our self-belief as well as our position in the table.
“Lazio can battle it out with anyone when using their ideal XI. They combine physicality with quality and we must respond on the same level.
“We have the capability of turning this season around, as with self-confidence, we can get out of this situation. What Suso did was the sign of a team that wants to improve. It doesn’t matter who plays, but how they sacrifice themselves for their teammates.
“We’ve got to believe in our Champions League qualification chances and if we believe, it becomes possible, if we work day and night to achieve it. We’ll see where we are at the end of the season, but must always show spirit and determination.”
Lucas Paqueta said he appreciated Pioli more than Marco Giampaolo, as there was “confusion” under the previous coach.
“I try to put players in the best position to express their quality and potential, within the context of a team,” added Pioli.
