Milan coach Stefano Pioli says Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a ‘point of reference’ for the younger players, praised ‘extraordinarily talented’ Gigio Donnarumma and claims the Diavolo squad don’t need many additions.

Pioli helped Milan finish sixth in Serie A 2019-20 and has been confirmed until June 2022. Now he hopes to keep working with veteran Ibrahimovic.

“Zlatan is a great professional. He teaches the younger players, he’s a point of reference for his teammates and is very respectful of roles,” Pioli told Milan’s sponsor Skrill.

“His secret is his desire to win and always improve.”

The coach hailed Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma, who stepped up as vice-captain when Alessio Romagnoli’s couldn’t play this season.

“Donnarumma is extraordinarily talented and wore Romagnoli’s captain’s armband with great personality.

“He’s one of the strongest goalkeepers in the world and still has sufficient room for improvement.”

Pioli believes Milan will find the right solutions on the transfer market this summer, but stressed the club don’t need many new players.

“Milan don’t need many new signings; we need few reinforcements but in the right positions.

“I’m sure the club will find the right solutions. I’m in touch with the CEO Ivan Gazidis, with Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara.

“Together we will do our best to improve this team.”
