Stefano Pioli assures Milan ‘didn’t even think’ about last season’s infamous defeat to Spezia, as they are focused on the present.

It kicks off at 19.45 GMT, you can follow all the build-up and action as it happens on the LIVEBLOG.

Serie A Liveblog: Atalanta-Napoli, Milan-Spezia and more

The Rossoneri can leapfrog Atalanta into second place with a victory, as La Dea were beaten 2-1 at home by leaders Napoli this evening.

This fixture was infamous last term, as Milan had scored for 2-1 in stoppages with Junior Messias, but the referee blew the whistle too early rather than play the advantage.

From that free kick, Spezia then went on the counter and scored to win 2-1 instead, an honest but terrible and very costly mistake.

“That was last season, a different time, I didn’t even think about it. We know there are difficulties, that we are coming off a defeat in the league and want to get right back on track,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think the choices I made were based on the fitness levels of my players.”

Divock Origi starts again this evening, but has struggled so far to make much of an impact since his free transfer from Liverpool.

“He is physically in good shape, a strong player, so I always expect a lot from my players and he will be ready to do well tonight.”

There is a midweek round coming up, but Pioli is eager to keep Milan focused.

“We cannot make the mistake of looking too far ahead. We had two very tough Champions League matches and didn’t do as well in Serie A, so we want to prove tonight that we can handle both competitions.”
