With the Derby della Madonnina against Milan on Saturday morning, the Beneamata are now in serious danger of missing out on Europe altogether.

“There’s been a decline and it wasn’t expected given how we want to play the game,” Pioli said in his pre-match Press conference.

“We’ve analysed it and we’ve done everything we can to assure it doesn’t happen again. Now it’s in the past and we can determine our future by showing that we’re competitive.

“The last two games we’ve had two bad 45-minute spells. We now have an opportunity to show that’s not us and that we can play constructive football and beat strong opponents.

“To get to the levels we need to be at will take mental consistency, certain missteps shouldn’t happen but they can happen in a path of growth.

“It’s important to learn from hard lessons like these and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“It’s not true to say that there was no reaction in the second half with Crotone, the team reacted and we didn’t deserve to lose.

“The players have understood my approach during the week and on Saturday I could either stick with them all or make a lot of changes.”

Defeat on Saturday would see Inter fall five points behind their city rivals, who are in the final Europa League spot…

“We started this chase six months ago and we’re still doing it. The finish line has shifted though, there are only seven games left.

“Two weeks ago we were making other assessments, but we can only make those at the end of the season.”
