Stefano Pioli thinks the key to Inter’s current form, including a fifth straight win over Chievo, is “belief and dialogue to build something for the future.”

Sergio Pellissier had given Chievo a shock lead at San Siro, but Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Eder turned it around late on for a 3-1 victory.

“The whole team played good football and was pretty consistent, so the win was certainly deserved. We showed character and determination to get the result,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The side is gaining belief in our work and clearly wins boost confidence. You can see from the attitude on the pitch that this team is fighting to the end for every point.

“Now we go into the Coppa Italia, a tournament that could give us some satisfying moments this season.”

Icardi scored his 15th Serie A goal of the season, consolidating his Capocannoniere status. Has he made the decisive step up to top player status?

“I think Mauro was a top player before I arrived too, but he still has to complete himself and create more movement off the ball. His work on the field helps us to get results and talent is not enough, you need hard work to be consistent.

“Every player in the squad knows that if Inter win, we’re all happy. They all want to prove they can play, for five, 10 or 90 minutes, the important thing is to work for the team.

“With the quality at our disposal, I think we can have our say in every match. The job of a Coach is also to understand the mood of the team. I sat them down, asked what we were missing and they gave the response. I like dialoguing with the players, for us to ask questions of each other, and we are building something positive for the future.”

Roberto Gagliardini was thrown in from the start for his debut just days after arriving from Atalanta.

“The fact I started him in such a difficult match shows he has quality and I have faith in him. We’ve got the players who can cover the whole flank, it’s all about ensuring the team is compact, solid and balanced. With our potential, we can be very dangerous indeed.”
