Stefano Pioli admits the break for international duty “is bad timing” after Lazio’s sixth consecutive victory.

Felipe Anderson and Antonio Candreva secured a 2-0 win over Verona that kept them within a point of second-placed Roma and extended their lead over fourth to four points.

“The team won deservedly against a difficult opponent,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“We are playing well, but the finish line is still a long way off. We faced this match with maturity and intelligence, so the result could’ve been a lot bigger.

“There has been a growth process at Lazio. At the start everything seemed new, but the mentality was always to take the initiative and impose our style on the game.

“Clearly with positive results, it all becomes easier. Are we chasing down Roma? We are focusing only on our own results and trying to better ourselves rather than chase anyone else.

“This break for international duty is bad timing for us, especially as we’ll have so many away. We hope they will return in good shape and ready to play.”
