“When there is a break for international duty, there’s time to study your opponents carefully,” said Pioli.

“Although we know how good Inter are, we are ready for them and prepared the situations as best we can to get the victory.

“Inter are organised, solid and physical, so we must be precise and rapid every time we get the chance to hurt them.

“It was also important to get players back from injury, like Michele Pazienza, Marek Cech and Cesare Natali.

“This season we suffered, gritted our teeth and overcame difficult moments. Some might suggest we’ve done nothing, but we’re two points in front of where we were last season.

“It’s true we could’ve done better, but we have grown through these experiences and are ready to face important and difficult tests.”
