However, the Spaniard came off the bench to earn a 1-0 victory over SPAL, giving Pioli his first win in charge of the Rossoneri.

“I asked the lads for the right spirit, we gave away little and created chances,” the Coach said after the game.

“It’s a shame we kept the result in the balance until the end, but winning through suffering can do us good, also for the match against Lazio.

“Suso has great quality, he can do more and I’m happy to coach him, but we have to think as a team. You don’t win or lose because of just one player.

“SPAL found it difficult to hold out for 90 minutes. In the second half, they lowered their centre of gravity and we played with more clarity.

“The team can grow and, if they do, anything is possible. There are some difficult matches coming up, but we’ll have to face them with no fear.”
