Stefano Pioli describes Fiorentina’s goalless draw with Genoa as ‘another step forward’ for his side.

La Viola lacked a finishing touch in today’s stalemate at the Artemio Franchi but they are now unbeaten in five Serie A matches – although four of those have ended in draws.

“I am definitely sorry we didn’t manage to win,” the former Lazio and Inter boss told reporters post-match.

“We didn’t manage to move the ball well enough in the first half. It was a bit better in the second half. We had 20 shots against an opposition who were very tight.

“It was a mature performance from the players. We were alert, focused and we didn’t risk anything.

“It is another step forward for us. We tried to win it until the last minute.”

Despite his satisfaction at the performance, Pioli admitted there are areas his team could have been better.

“We needed a little bit of luck in certain situations, maybe from a set piece. In terms of our play we deserved to win.

“We were missing something in the penalty area. We needed a little more precision too because out of around 20 shots, only four or five were on target.”
