Stefano Pioli felt the 4-1 defeat to Roma was “excessively harsh” on Lazio, but “we made big mistakes.”

The Coach is considered to be at risk of the sack after the Derby della Capitale collapse and Lazio will also go into a training retreat from tomorrow afternoon.

“We struggled in the first half, as it was difficult to get possession off Roma, so we wanted to wait and hit them on the counter,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“We had few counters, it’s true, but we also didn’t run many risks other than the goals that we made big mistakes on.

“There were improvements after the break and we went close to re-opening the game, but unfortunately the result is excessively harsh considering the performance.

“In such a complicated campaign we wanted to give our fans something to celebrate. Now we can only prove our professionalism to the end of the season and keep our profile up with dignity.

“This is the real disappointment, as we know that we could’ve done more on all the goals. We are working hard on these situations, but are still making mistakes.

“I believe there is never just one person who takes full credit or full blame. I wasn’t entirely the key to last season’s success and am not the only one to blame for this season’s problems.”
