Vladimir Petkovic wants Lazio to beat Legia Warsaw and top their Europa League group, but shrugs off talk of the Switzerland job.

The Biancocelesti are currently second in Group J on eight points behind Trabzonspor on 10. Apollon Limassol have four and Legia Warsaw zero, so the Italians are practically qualified already.

“I expect Legia to be a tough opponent, as they also did well at the Olimpico, have pace, stamina and were unlucky to lose against Trabzonspor,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We must continue our march on Europe, as we have only lost one game in the last year and a half of this competition. We’re targeting first place in the group, which is very important for the draw in the next phase.”

Lazio are struggling domestically and pressure is piling up on Petkovic after a home defeat to Genoa and last-gasp draw at 10-man Sampdoria.

“We know we didn’t make a good impression at Marassi on Sunday, but also that Samp only had two good chances. It’s not all as bleak as people make out. We know we can and must do better, starting from tomorrow, with positivity and everyone helping each other out.

“I want to see 11 warriors who at any given moment know what to do on the field. We’ll try to achieve this all together.”

Lazio have also been in the headlines because Petkovic was repeatedly linked with the job of Switzerland Coach after the World Cup.

“I don’t want to make publicity for myself or draw the attention of the media. These things do not interest me. It’s all rumours, nothing is confirmed, and tomorrow we have a very important game to stay in Europe.”
