They have won just one of their last nine Serie A games and reports continue to suggest the Coach will be sacked, especially as he is heavily linked with the Switzerland job.

“As always, we must do better and take more of our chances against a side with excellent attacking potential,” said Petkovic in his Press conference.

“We cannot afford any more mistakes and we have no choice but to win. Perhaps we are missing that 10-20 per cent more that we need to achieve so much more in terms of results.

“How do we emerge from this time? With nothing in particular, the important thing is to be united and work together for the same cause. We need more positivity, which has been lacking in recent months.”

Miroslav Klose is still battling against injury, so the Coach warned he could “again transform the tactical system.

“From what I see in training, the players still have faith in me. I try to bring this calm and positivity on to the pitch. The President also had individual meetings with the players. We analysed the games and could’ve achieved so much more, but lost against Napoli due to banal individual errors.

“You cannot just change the entire defence after one or two mistakes. In every game we always had more scoring opportunities than our opponents, except for against Juventus. We need more concentration in every minute of the match.”

Petkovic agreed that Lazio tend to fall off the boil after the half-time break.

“Statistically that is true, though I don’t think we do in terms of performance. We had many chances to net in the second half, but often concede too and it becomes difficult to react when someone doesn’t 100 per cent believe in their capabilities.

“Does this Lazio lack a leadership figure? That’s true in general of all football teams, so also for mine. You don’t have the leaders you used to anymore.”
