Napoli have reportedly taken the first steps to securing the signature of Ivan Perisic from Wolfsburg, while the player’s agent admits a move is ‘possible’.

The Partenopei are believed to be looking for an attacking midfielder after Lorenzo Insigne was ruled out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Neapolitan newspaper Il Mattino states that the club have made initial advances in their efforts to sign the Croatian international, with sporting director Riccardo Bigon sounding out the player’s agent about a possible move.

The newspaper reports that Napoli could meet with officials from Wolfsburg when Perisic visits Italy on Sunday as Croatia take on the Azzurri at San Siro.

It is thought the German club would ask for around €15m for the player, but Il Mattino believes this could be negotiated.

The player’s agent Tonci Martic insisted there had been no contact with Napoli, but refused to rule out a move to Rafael Benitez’ side.

“I have no news on Napoli,” Martic told Calciomercato.

“I haven’t spoken with sporting director Bigon in recent days. I spoke with him in the summer, but not now.

“Perisic did not play tonight [for Croatia in Wednesday’s loss to Argentina], but the Coach is saving him for Sunday. Maybe Bigon will be in Milan.

“Is a move impossible in January? No, everything is possible if Napoli can find an agreement with Wolfsburg.”
