Inter winger Ivan Perisic thanks Italy for helping Croatia to automatic Euro 2016 qualification.
The Croats beat Malta last night, but were relying on Italy to defeat Norway in order to take the second automatic qualifying place behind the Azzurri.
“It was difficult, very difficult,” Perisic told reporters after the Malta match.
“We started well in the first half, and had three or four opportunities to score. It’s a shame because if we’d scored two or three goals we could have settled.

“We got a scare in the last 10 minutes when we heard Italy were still drawing in Rome. It was essential for us to reach the European Championships, now we have more than six months to prepare.
“Thanks to Italy for the help, even if we were deciding our own fate. Tomorrow I’ll thank my teammates [Davide Santon and Andrea Ranocchia] at Inter!”
