Mattia Perin admits “now is not the time to leave Genoa” as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

The goalkeeper had been linked with Inter, Roma and Liverpool, but is currently sidelined after rupturing his cruciate ligament, which caused him to miss out on Euro 2016.

His agent had touted the shot-stopper for a move this summer, but the player himself is happy where he is.

His agent had touted the shot-stopper for a move this summer, but the player himself is happy where he is.

“Everyone tries to look after their own interests,” Perin acknowledged, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Now is not the time to leave Genoa though. I still feel like I can give a lot, but obviously I don’t know if I’ll stay for life.”

Perin sparked controversy in May with offensive comments to Frosinone fans, and once again offered an apology.

“I was wrong. I remember Pope Francis said that if a friend insults your mother then he can expect a punch… people wished death on me and my family.

“I should have stayed calm though, we’re public figures and we can’t afford to slip-up like that.”
