Mattia Perin’s agent has indicated that the young goalkeeper is prepared to compete with Sebastien Frey at Genoa and even aim for next year’s World Cup.

The 20-year-old impressed last season whilst on loan at Pescara, but according to his representative has no move for 2013-14 arranged yet.

“We took stock of the situation, he will begin preseason with Genoa and then we will see what happens,” commented Matteo Roggi to TuttoMercatoWeb.com in reference to a meeting this week with Grifone officials.

“In front of him is Frey, but he will go there prepared to gamble. He could win the position because for me he has all the qualities and the right determination.

“The field will do his talking. He is convinced he can move ahead of Frey for the position, he is working well to become the starter.

“If it does not happen then he will learn from a player like Frey.”

Perin has three caps at Under-21 level.

“I hope he can [get into the team], although the competition is huge. He has the advantage of being a natural talent, hard working as well, and he has a chance to win back a place.

“With a bit of presumption I will say that he should aim to do well to get into the group for Brazil/

“Some may claim that is an exaggeration, but I know the boy well.”
