Mattia Perin’s agent says that his client won’t be leaving Genoa when the next transfer window opens in January.

The Latina-born goalkeeper made some excellent saves in the game won against Juventus last night, which was Gigi Buffon’s 500th game with the Bianconeri.

For the young ‘keeper’s agent, though, comparisons with Buffon may be a little premature.

“Mattia has always worked to a high level and I think that you can spot a champion when he shows that he can deliver consistently,” Matteo Roggi has told Calciomercato.it.

“Gigi is a monument of Italian football and he might be able to play for 10 more years and still remain the best, while Mattia is still a young ‘keeper who has to complete his growth process.

“I don’t like comparisons because I think that every football player is unique.

“Perin just loves to learn and the more time he spends with Buffon in the national team, the stronger he can become.

“Just like what is happening between [Marco] Verratti and [Andrea] Pirlo, as the former steals secrets from the latter during training sessions with Italy.”

Perin has faced speculation over his future, with Liverpool one name thrown into the market of late.

“I think it’s normal that when you do well, big teams tend to be interested. But at the moment I haven’t heard anything from Liverpool so I think it’s only a rumour for now.

“Mattia is one of Genoa’s finest pieces, but logic leads me to state that he will stay there until the end of the season.

“He needs to in order to keep growing at what he feels like his home. And that’s what he thinks too.

“Obviously in football, you can never say never because if in January somebody came with an undeniably good offer, then he would leave.”
