The goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes of Italy’s 1-1 international friendly draw with the Netherlands this evening, at the home ground of the club he looks set to join.

“Today I was in goal for the Nazionale, it’s a shame I conceded the goal at the end but we need to take the positives from this performance.

“Young players played and there is a lot of margin for improvement.”

With Gigi Buffon’s playing future uncertain, Perin was asked about his battle with Gigio Donnarumma and Salvatore Sirigu to be the Azzurri’s next number one.

“I have always said that competition makes you better. There are a lot of young goalkeepers who can aim for this shirt.

“If Buffon continues to play, he might come back into the Nazionale.”
