Lorenzo Pellegrini warns it would be an ‘absurdity’ if Roma did not qualify for the Champions League but assures he is ‘honoured’ to play for the club.

Roma endured an inconsistent first half to the season, leaving them closer to midtable at one point, but three wins in their last four Serie A games have moved them to within just two points of city rivals Lazio, who occupy fourth place.

Roma endured an inconsistent first half to the season, leaving them closer to midtable at one point, but three wins in their last four Serie A games have moved them to within just two points of city rivals Lazio, who occupy fourth place.

“We have to do better than in the first round, but we’re aware of that,” Pellegrini told Sky Sport Italia

“To get in the top four, we need to do better. Torino? It’ll be a beautiful and difficult match against them. They’ll certainly want to win.

“Fourth place is certainly our minimum objective. I’m very confident in the team and it would be an absurdity if we didn’t finish in the top four.

“Competition for the No 10 shirt with Pastore and Zaniolo? There’s three of us going for one place, but I’m available to play anywhere for the Coach.

“The No 10 role is where I express myself best and have most fun, but for my team I’d also play as a full-back.

“The No 10 shouldn’t think too much about tactics compared to a midfielder. I feel freer there, but I’ll get used to any position I play in.”

The 22-year-old is Roma through and through, given he was born in the Italian capital and came through the Giallorossi’s youth system, despite talk of a possible move to Manchester United.

“I’m not thinking about anything else,” he added.

“I go to Trigoria to train and that’s the most important thing for me.

“My dream? Already representing my city, colours, friends and family is a great responsibility and honour for me.

“Wearing the captain’s armband would be a dream and I’d be honoured. I’m working to improve.”
