Prandelli had reportedly agreed terms with the club some time ago, but there is still no formal announcement as they look at other options.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the latest candidate is ex-Manchester City boss Pellegrini.

He had also been linked with Milan, but the negotiations to sell the club to Chinese investors hit problems and delayed any decision.

Meanwhile, Il Messaggero newspaper suggests a reason for Lazio refusing to appoint a Coach yet and it is purely financial.

Pioli still has another year on his contract and if he fails to find a new club, Lazio must continue paying his €2m per year wages.

Lazio are therefore waiting to see if he gets another job and in any case holding on until June 11, the date when the new financial year for the club begins.
