The Rossoneri striker has played 24 times for Cesare Prandelli's side, but did not make the squad for Euro 2012, and has conceded that he would like to play once again for the Azzurri.
“Even though I wasn't called up to the last squad, I still root for the Azzurri,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“If I get a lot of goals [for Milan], then I hope to receive a call-up.”
He also commented on his season so far and some of the Coaches he has worked under – past and present.
“We are growing well as a side,” he said. “We have a nice group of lads here and I'm sure everything will turn out well.
“With Leonardo at Inter, we got on very well. He brought joy and enthusiasm to the locker room and helped everyone grow.
“Stramaccioni was always direct with me – he told me that he preferred other players, so I have absolutely nothing against him.
“Allegri and I understand each other. He has not changed is attitude even in this time of difficulty. He has always had a positive attitude and that has helped us grow.”
The 28-year-old then remarked on the rise of strike-partner Stephan El Shaarawy.
“I did not expect this explosion. But mentally, he certainly does not seem like a 20-year-old. He is playing in an impressive manner and always keeps calm.
“But there is still ample room for improvement. He can certainly become a great player.”
