Napoli appear to have decided they want to keep Leonardo Pavoletti, so Cagliari have turned to Lazio striker Filip Djordjevic instead.

It was widely reported that Pavoletti would join the Sardinians on a dry loan – without option to buy – in order to get regular playing time.

However, Sky Sport Italia now suggest the Partenopei have changed their minds and intend to keep Pavoletti in the squad.

The 28-year-old cost €18m when signed from Genoa in January, but has made just 10 competitive appearances for the club.

Pavoletti was also linked with Sassuolo, Spal and Alaves.

With this option suddenly off the table and time running out ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, Cagliari are turning towards another target.

It’s believed to be Lazio outcast Djordjevic, who arrived as a free agent from Nantes in the summer of 2014.

The Serbia international scored 16 goals in 76 official games for Lazio, but never quite recovered his form after a serious injury and is not part of Simone Inzaghi’s plans.
